Check these boxes before you apply:

  • At least 18 years old

  • Green card holder for 5 years (3 years if married to a US citizen)

  • Continuous residence and physical presence in the US

  • Good moral character

  • Attached to US principles and willing to defend them

2. Apply with Form N-400:

File Form N-400 with USCIS, including all required documents and fees.

3. Biometrics Appointment:

USCIS will schedule fingerprinting, photo, and signature capture for background checks.

4. Naturalization Interview:

If your application is valid, USCIS will interview you to review your background, test your English and civics knowledge (unless exempt).

5. Passing the Tests:

Demonstrate English proficiency (speaking, reading, writing) and knowledge of US history and government through the civics test.

6. Oath of Allegiance Ceremony:

If approved, attend a ceremony to take the Oath of Allegiance and become a US citizen. You'll receive your Certificate of Naturalization.
