No correct Fee, No N-565

Thinking about applying for U.S. citizenship (N-400 application)? Here's the deal about including your spouse, even if they aren't eligible yet:

  • Include Them, But... You can include your spouse on your N-400 application, but it won't automatically make them a citizen.

  • Why Include Them? It informs USCIS about your marital status and allows them to do background checks. It also helps see if your spouse meets any future eligibility requirements.

  • No Change in Status: Including them won't change their current immigration status (green card, visa, etc.). They'll need to qualify separately for citizenship.

  • Talk to an Immigration Attorney! Unsure about including your spouse or their eligibility? An attorney can give personalized advice based on your situation.

Remember: Including your spouse on your N-400 application won't hurt, but consult an attorney for specific guidance.
