Proving Your Marriage to USCIS

When applying for immigration benefits, USCIS wants to make sure your marriage is real. To prove it, you'll need to provide solid evidence.

What Kind of Evidence?

Think about these things:

  • Joint Accounts: Bank accounts, leases, utility bills, insurance, and tax returns with both your names.

  • Photos: Pictures from your wedding and everyday life.

  • Friends and Family: Letters or statements from people who know your relationship is real.

  • Travel: Tickets, reservations, or other proof that you've traveled together.

  • Communication: Messages, letters, or emails showing you've been in touch.

  • Children: Birth certificates if you have kids together.

  • Shared Activities: Things you do together, like memberships or going to events.

  • Other Stuff: Gifts, cards, or shared purchases.

The more evidence you can gather, the better your chances of proving your marriage is genuine.
