Conditional Green Card Expiring?

Married to a US citizen and got a 2-year green card (Form I-551)? Here’s how to remove the conditions and get a regular 10-year green card with Form I-751:

What it is: A petition to remove conditions on your conditional permanent resident status.

Who qualifies: People who got a conditional green card through marriage to a US citizen/resident (must file jointly within 90 days of expiration).

Exceptions to joint filing:

  • Marriage ended in divorce/annulment

  • Abuse or hardship by US citizen/resident spouse

  • US citizen/resident spouse deceased

What you’ll need:

  • Proof of bona fide marriage (evidence your marriage is real, not for immigration purposes)

  • Joint financial documents, photos, affidavits, etc.

How to file:

  • Fill out Form I-751 accurately and submit it with required documents and filing fee to the correct USCIS address (instructions vary).

  • Include additional documentation if filing for a waiver of the joint filing requirement.

Interview: USCIS may schedule an interview to verify your marriage’s authenticity.

Remember: Proper filing and sufficient evidence are key!
