Form I-751: Keep Your Green Card

Have a green card based on marriage to a US citizen or green card holder (valid for 2 years)? You might need Form I-751 to remove the conditions.

Who Can File?

  • Married Couples: If you’re still married and living together, file jointly with your spouse.

  • Marriage Ended: If divorced, widowed, or separated, you may still qualify to remove conditions, but you’ll need a waiver. You can request a waiver based on:

    • Abuse or extreme cruelty

    • Good cause (other exceptional circumstances)

Important Notes:

  • Carefully review USCIS instructions to see if you qualify for a joint filing or need a waiver.

  • Each waiver category has specific requirements and evidence needed.

  • USCIS provides detailed information for each situation. Make sure you meet all the requirements and have enough evidence to support your petition.
