Why is the United States Department of National Visa Center (NVC) Phone Number Not Working?

If you’ve tried calling the United States National Visa Center recently you may have had some trouble. In fact, you’ve likely been unable to complete your call. This is because they have suspended their phone line since May 23, 2022. This suspension has been defined as indefinitely. In other words it is not certain when the phone lines will be functioning again. 

In this down time the National Visa Center has stated that they will “address critical backlogs”. They also clarified that crucial duties will not be put on hold as NVC ‘addresses backlogs’. 

For those needing assistance from NVC there are a few options. For assistance with a case visit https://nvc.state.gov. Otherwise, you can search for information at https://ceac.state.gov. The Public Inquiry Forum at https://nvc.state.gov/inquiry is also open for those that need assistance but only with immigrant visas.

During this time they have requested that individuals resist submitting identical questions because it slows down the response time of NVC. Individuals are able to check the estimated wait time for a response at https://nvc.state.gov/timeframes.
