Family Reunification Made Easier: USCIS Innovation
Great news for families! The wait is over - the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has launched a new online application process to help keep families together.
This initiative, called "Keeping Families Together," is designed to support noncitizen spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens already living in the U.S. without legal documentation.
Here's what you need to know:
New Online Form: Starting August 19, 2024, you can submit an application for Parole in Place using the I-131F form. This form will only be available online at USCIS.gov (not before August 19th!).
Filing Guide Available: USCIS has also published a helpful Filing Guide for Form I-131F. This guide walks you through the application process step-by-step. You can find it on the Keeping Families Together webpage on USCIS.gov.
Separate Applications Required: Each person applying for Parole in Place, including minors, will need to submit their own separate I-131F form. You'll also need to create a USCIS online account for each applicant.
Stay Alert for Scams: Unfortunately, scammers often target immigrants with false promises. Remember, USCIS will never contact you through social media or ask for payment via phone or email. Learn more about how to protect yourself from scams on the USCIS website.
This program marks a significant step towards keeping families united. If you have any questions or need legal advice, be sure to consult with an attorney admitted to practice law in the United States or an accredited representative working for a Department of Justice-recognized organization.
We appreciate USCIS for taking this important step to help families stay together!
