Change of Heart? Withdraw Your K-1 Petition

Life happens, and sometimes plans change. If you've filed a fiancé(e) visa petition (Form I-129F) but want to back out, you can withdraw it. Here's how:

1. Write a polite letter to USCIS: Clearly state that you want to withdraw your petition. Include your name, your fiancé(e)'s name, the petition receipt number, and the reason for withdrawing (if you want to share).

2. Send it with proof: Mail your letter to the same USCIS office where you originally filed the petition. Include a copy of the receipt notice you got when you first filed. Sending it certified mail with a return receipt is a good idea.

3. Wait for confirmation: USCIS will send you a letter confirming that your petition has been withdrawn. This might take some time.

A few things to remember:

  • Withdrawing doesn't stop your fiancé(e) from coming to the U.S. If they've already got a K-1 visa, withdrawing the petition won't change that.

  • You can file again later: If things change, you can always file a new fiancé(e) petition in the future.

If you're unsure about any of this or need more guidance, it's always a good idea to talk to an immigration lawyer.
